After years of destruction during the civil war Beirut is facing a new and equally severe threat to its architectural heritage: uncontrolled real estate development.

Just a few years ago more than 1000 buildings were declared national heritage. Unfortunately, this did not help to protect them. Due to the lack of building regulations, especially height restrictions, the history of the city is erased to make way for more profitable high rises, neglecting scale and character of the residential neighbourhoods they're built in.
